A Guide to Historic African American Communities in Burleson County
A Guide to Historic African American Communities in Burleson County
About
This website is dedicated to the preservation and perseverance of Burleson County's freedom colonies and their descendant communities. Using the "five tools" of historic preservation, Texas A&M University's URPN 240 (More than Monuments Class) assessed current needs, conditions, and the cultural landscape histories of Dabney Hill, Somerville, and Centerline Cemetery through oral history records. The purpose of this website is to bring attention to the current preservation efforts in and the undertold histories of Burleson County, Texas freedom colonies. The issues and stories shared are from the perspective of students, descendants, and current residents.
